Advances in modern double glazing.

There have been some major advances in double glazing in the last couple of years. In the past the greater the number of windows and the overall window area the greater the heat loss. Then manufacturers of glass discovered that if the sand used to make glass is free of iron and iron oxides the glass it makes allows heat radiation to pass through it much easier.

At which point one could be forgiven for thinking that would make such glass totally unsuitable for windows and it would be, had not someone discovered a glass coating that creates the equivalent of a one way mirror. This coating which is invisiblen to the naked eye allows heat from the sun into the room and the special coating reflects radiated heat back in the room. Learn more
